On this particular morning I was on my way to my day job. We were pretty low at this time of our lives, the kids and I. We had recently relocated to Michigan. The kids were young and I was just beginning my life as a seeker.
I was working two jobs so when I say "day job" I mean that literally. This meant the kids and I didn't have a lot of time together. What started out as two part time jobs ended up being two full time jobs.
But even with two jobs, we were barely able to dig out from under recent expenses. By the time I replaced the blown engine in my car, set up housekeeping in our new home and purchased new clothes and school supplies, there wasn't much left for the weeks groceries.
The kids and I were sleeping on mattresses on the floor and I had bought some cheap material to drape over the windows for privacy. So you can imagine my spirits were struggling this morning on my way to work.
I was wondering just how we were going to manage when I heard this little voice come over the radio. It started with a whistle just to get my attention. I love songs that include a whistle. So I knew right away that the Universe was talking to me.
I had to turn the volume up to hear the words from this tiny little voice. What were the words? "Don't Worry, Be Happy!" The tune was so catchy I found myself tapping my foot and a big smile formed on my lips almost out of control.
That song became my favorite tune of all time and can bring the same reaction even today.
You know what happened after that? Our bills got paid, the kids and I moved into a happier space and life became grand again.
Now I'm not saying that song created a miracle in my life. What it did do was lighten my soul and create a space for me to move into a higher vibration. Funny how happy songs will do that.
So what is your happy song? I wonder if we start our day with a song that brings a smile to our face and a lift to our steps, will that make the day brighter? I'm convinced it will.
Don't Worry, Be Happy!
Since I found this old time favorite on YouTube I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way:) I dare you to only listen to it once!
