You’ve probably heard it said, by wise men, great and true
That those who search for love are fools and those who find are few
They say that love is folly and efforts are in vain
And if we seek fortune and honor we have much more to gain
But have they really pondered this love they speak about
Or did they simply label it a thing to live without
Love has many faces all are tried and true
Unlike the worldly needs of man, love we can’t eschew
To some love is a child to others love is wealth
Some find love in gardening and some just love good health
Love is reading, love is art
Love is a feeling of the heart
Love is a puppy love is a cat
Love is a Rhino, imagine that
Love is a tree Love is a hill
Love is the song of a whippowill
Love is a Doctor Love is a king
Love is a Talent love is a ring
Love is the ocean love is the sod
And who wouldn’t say that love is God
Yes love is a thing, people, a place
Love is a part of the whole human race
We may blurt it hurt it desert it and such.
But we cannot deny the need of loves touch

This poem was written by my mother the month I graduated from Fairmont Senior High in June of 1971. I have Mom to thank for my many views of life. Always the one to shine my path for me, I knew she would always be there with open arms to catch me if I fell. It took courage to walk some paths but I always knew she would be there to listen as I came back to share what I had found. Times would come when she would say I brought her gifts she couldn’t find on her own. Yet always I knew that on some level she had been there before me. Thanks mom.
