Can We Build a Fire and Roast Marshmallows?
You hear the request and wonder what to do. At first you fear you may have to disappoint those precious little faces. But the words jump from your mouth, "Sure we can!"

You are rewarded with squeals of delight and wonder as you sit in a circle with every face on you. "First we have to build a base for the fire. Let's gather some flat rocks." Soon you have a circle of rocks perfect for that campfire.

Now let's gather sticks to put the marshmallows on. Once again the kids return each with the perfect stick for them.

Let's build that fire so it's nice and bright. Got to have a hot campfire if we're going to roast good marshmallows. Each child get's a turn stirring the fire to perfection.

Next we place each marshmallow on the stick just right. You have to stick your twig right in the middle of that marshmallow. Make sure it's on good and tight so it doesn't fall off in the fire now. All eyes are pinned to your hands as you carefully place a mallow on your stick.

Now hold your marshmallow over the fire and watch as it turns from fluffy white to a toasty crispy brown.

Suddenly one of the kids yells out, "Look out your marshmallow is on fire!" You quickly pull your marshmallow up and blow out the flames. "Phew! That was close."

"Awe!" Perfect. Now that's one good marshmallow."
Every once in a while we get a view of how powerful your imagination can be. Every family reunion has at least one memorable event. And when it comes to kids you probably have many.
But kids tend to bring any occasion to life, don't they. Our family reunion this year was no exception. The event rumbled down through all of the adults. You have to get a picture of this, they all said.
Wondering over to the screen tent I could see a gathering of little ones and one extra big kid. They all gathered round in a circle fit for a teepee. A look inside revealed the favored activity of every camping scene.
All the children were gathered round a campfire roasting marshmallows, including my baby brother who is 47 now. They were having a ball roasting marshmallows by a campfire`.
If you weren't there to take pictures you would never know the campfire was a pile of leaves inside a circle of flat rocks set. And marshmallows were actually dried leaves found lying on the forest floor. The only real marshmallows in this roast were in their imaginations.
But I bet this is one marshmallow roast they will remember for a long time to come. If you were really watching the fun and glee that transpired before your camera view you might even find your lips pursed to blow out that fire as you take your pictures.
I know this is one family reunion I'll remember as the best ever. Hope you enjoyed our perfect! marshmallow roast.
